Location based services are based on a flawed lifestyle

buzzd may be good for finding drinking buddies - but forget about locating coffee

Good article on the basic limitations of “location based services.” Best quote: “Sounds great. Assuming you’re a 19 something bar hopper. ” That’s the problem with all these things: they assume a young, urban lifestyle which is at odds with real life.

NEWS FLASH: you won’t be young and hip for very long. Soon, you will want something more permanent.

Choosing discouragement or choosing God

I wish I read more articles like this. Andree Seu in World this month has captured part of the essence of life, one of the parts where I most often fail.

Read The Active Heart.

Setting our eyes on things above

From George Herbert, Man’s Medley. He is talking about a man (or woman):

… Not that he may not here

Taste of the cheer,

But as birds drink, and straight lift up their head,

So he must sip and think

Of better drink

He may attain to, after he is dead.

Bible Conference in Dallas

David JackmanEverybody should know that David Jackman is going to be in town on May 17-18 at the Trinity Hillcrest Church. Rev. Jackman is one of those great English evangelicals whose forthright faithfulness has been a bedrock under many of our lives (think John Stott, J I Packer, Martyn Lloyd-Jones). Currently he heads the Proclamation Trust, an organization dedicated to the revival of the preaching of the Bible. He is also associated with Oak Hill College, which has been at the forefront of the defense of the doctrine of penal substitution in the late controversies in the UK.

A friend of mine is getting married Saturday night, but I hope to make it to Saturday morning and Sunday night at least. Check it out!

Together for the Gospel pictures

Together For The Gospel

I’m really excited to be heading for Louisville, KY tomorrow for what promises to be a wonderful conference - Together For The Gospel.  I’ll be staying with my wife’s cousin and super-blogger Blake. Thanks my brother.

Best of all, I’m traveling with my oldest son, and he is the guy who talked me into going! Thanks Eric!

Back to blogging for the new year

This blog has been neglected! As a new year’s discipline, I’m going back to blogging. Perhaps shorter and different, but something, and frequently.

Eight facts

OK, I don’t like these games of tag, OK?  ok.

But my buddy Philip has challenged me to tell eight little known facts about myself. I’m not sure there even are eight facts about myself, but I’ll try.

1. I played football. Yes, it’s true. In the 5th grade. There is actually a picture of me somewhere with a jersey and pads on.

2. My son Evan has not yet had hair longer than mine was in high school.

3. One of my dad’s favorite experiences with me was when I went out with Andy Martin in a sailboat at Scout camp, and we turned the boat over in the middle of the lake. With a storm coming.

4. Meanwhile, I never made Eagle Scout. Never even got close. I think there might have been two merit badges sewn on my sash.

5. My first car was a blue 1966 Ford Falcon. When it hit a 1975 Mercury Monarch in the side (not my fault), it crushed the Monarch but didn’t even break my headlight.

6. I love Lubbock, Texas. Hub of the Plains. I went to school there. I didn’t like the sandstorms though.

7. When I was a student in Lubbock, I had my teeth worked on by a former Republican candidate for Governor of Texas.

8. I’ve been eating Pizza Inn Thin Crust Sausage Pizza for as long as I can remember eating. Which is a a long time. And I still like it.

Well there it is! Now maybe I can think of someone to tag.
