Big Wave, thanks for your comments! I looked for your blog but I guess you don't have one. You surely must be right when you say that "we ought to offer others Scripture with love." That's just what I don't seem to do. The words of God, not necessarily my words, need to be shared. They are precious and valuable words. Thanks for the encouragement.

Shapenotesinger...I thought about the same question/comment. I actually feel that we are odd. I hope to be taking this scripture correctly but I think we can apply the example of 1 Peter 2:11-12 "11Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. 12Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation." I cannot remember who I heard this from, but we ought to offer to others scripture with love explaining why we act the way we do and let them decide whether to take it and make it a part of who they are, or take offense in it. It is a great spurring reminder that we need to let light shine through. I actually think that I teeter, totter between thinking that I need to do more, and realizing that no matter what I do it does not change God's perfect plan. For me it goes deeper than proclaiming publicly what I believe, to, why do I not want to proclaim publicly. Am I not valuing Christ enough to care about proclaiming the glory of God, like maybe I value my acceptance with other people more than proclaiming Godâ??s glory. Anywho, just thought I would comment. I like the readings, comments, and all. Have a great day and may God overflow your cup! A friend of mulltrain and pizzaman.

Yes, my burden is just that we don't "be who we are" publicly. We often hide who we are. I don't mean that nothing shines through, I just mean that we cover up things that could shine through.

Isn't our "witness" a reflection of our identity? If we are abiding in Him (see John 15), being comformed to the image of Christ, won't just "being who we are" be our witness?

There are excellent thoughts regarding this subject in the book _Beyond Identity_ by Dick Keyes' (Director of Massachusetts L'Abri branch, along with his wife Mardi).

Also, more on this subject can be found on Dick's lecture "The Link Between Knowing and Doing" which can be ordered from SoundWord.

So....

What's the first step in mending our ways? Is being perceived as odd or puzzling a step in the right direction? or does that miss the mark?
